On 26 November 2013, human rights lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa was acquitted of the charge of “obstructing justice”. Zimbabwean police arrested Mtetwa, on Sunday 17 March 2013. She was arrested while attempting to provide legal assistance to Thabani Mpofu, Director of Research and Development in the Office of the Zimbabwean Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, who was arrested the same day. She was held in custody for 8 nights before she was released on bail on 25 March 2013.
Shortly after the arrest of Mtetwa, L4L sent, together with Zimbabwe Watch, the AED and Lawyers Rights Watch Canada, a letter to the Zimbabwean authorities, urging them to release Ms. Mtetwa immediately and unconditionally.
