Report on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran
This report covers the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Various violation of the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers are discussed. With regard to the status of lawyers the Special Representative urges the Government to respect international standards, such as the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.

In the present document Human Rights Watch (HRW) expresses concern to the speaker of the Iranian parliament over comments made by one parliamentarian about women lawyers in Iran. HRW refers to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers and states that the principles set out guarantees that are necessary for the functioning of lawyers.
