The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) refuted on Thursday, August 23 2018, the claim of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) that the arrest of the three lawyers during the raid of a bar in Makati City was a violation of United Nations (UN) rules and principles.

ICJ calls on Maldivian authorities to “end assault on legal profession”

The International Commission of Jurists expressed concern over the government’s “reprisals taken against lawyers for performing their legitimate professional functions” and also called on the government to immediately lift the state of emergency. ICJ highlighted that the prominent lawyers in the Maldives are facing penalties for possibly their choice in clients.
