About Lawyers for Lawyers
Lawyers for Lawyers is an independent NGO dedicated to protecting lawyers who are threatened, harassed, or prosecuted because of their professional work. We work to ensure that lawyers everywhere can carry out their essential role in upholding the rule of law freely and independently.
Our organisation consists of a dedicated board, a small office team, and a broad network of lawyers and law firms in the Netherlands that support colleagues around the world.
What will you do?
As an intern, you will support a broad range of legal, advocacy, and organisational activities, including:
- Conducting legal and factual research on the situation of lawyers in different countries.
- Drafting and contributing to articles, website content, reports, advocacy documents, and submissions to the United Nations and regional human rights mechanisms.
- Assisting with the preparation and coordination of projects and events, including international training activities. This may involve logistical support, such as liaising with participants, coordinating travel and accommodation, and supporting administrative processes.
- Supporting organisational tasks, including preparing meetings, assisting with project planning, and coordinating communication with partners.
- Contributing to external communications by drafting short updates, assisting with social media content, and supporting the dissemination of Lawyers for Lawyers’ work.
- Engaging with lawyers visiting the Netherlands and helping connect them with our network where appropriate.
This is a hands-on and varied internship that offers insight into both the legal and operational aspects of an international human rights organisation.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who has:
- A strong affinity with the mission and work of Lawyers for Lawyers.
- Enthusiasm to learn, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and organisational skills.
- Excellent written English.
- Knowledge of Spanish (strongly preferred). Knowledge of additional languages, such as French, Russian, or Arabic, is an advantage.
Please note that applicants must already have the legal right to live and work in the Netherlands for the duration of the internship. Unfortunately, Lawyers for Lawyers is not able to sponsor visas, residence permits, or work permits for this internship.
