The present report of Amnesty International concerns the situation of a group of detainees arrested in Yemen in July 2003. They were accused of belonging to al-Qa’ida. According to Amnesty International the group of detainees were held totally at the mercy of the government and security forces, far removed from judicial scrutiny. Amnesty refers to a violation of the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers with regard to the right to access to a lawyer.
