The Law Society of Upper Canada is concerned about the sentencing of three lawyers, Abdulrahman Al Rumaih, Abdulrahman Al Subaihi and Bander Alnogaithan, in Saudi Arabia. They were sentenced to prison terms between five to eight years for criticizing the Ministry of Justice on Twitter. The Law Society of Upper Canada believes that lawyers should not hesitate to speak out against an injustice and would like to highlight Principles 16 and 23 of the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
