In the report, the Special Rapporteur encourages the Government of Myanmar to implement his previous recommendations on the judiciary, the fourth core human rights element as contained in his earlier report (A/63/341), and to undertake the series of measures proposed, in order to enhance its independence and impartiality. These include guarantees for due process of law, especially public hearings in trials against prisoners of conscience. These and other measures are detailed in the Basic Principles on the Independence of the Judiciary (1985); the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers (1990).
