The present report concerns a mission to Mexico undertaken from 1 to 15 October 2010 by the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers. It examines factors impacting the independence of the judiciary and the conditions necessary for ensuring free and independent exercise of the legal profession in Mexico. The Special Rapporteur observes that structural and organizational flaws in the judicial system, especially at the level of federative entities, have an impact on the independence and autonomy of judicial authorities and draws attention to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
