The present report of the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism contains summaries of communications transmitted to Governments as well as replies received between 1 January and 31 December 2010. In addition, the report covers press releases issued in 2010. The Special Rapporteur refers to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers with regard to the issue of detention.
