This document summarizes Amnesty International’s concerns about the use of torture in China and comments on the second periodic report submitted recently by the Government of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations on its implementation of the Convention against Torture.  Amnesty International stated that the revised provisions still fall far short of international standards such as the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers which require that detainees be given prompt and regular access to lawyers.
