Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) is condemning police in Kuala Lumpur for questioning Matthias Chang over his client, former Batu Kawan Umno deputy chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan who was recently detained under the anti-terrorism law on grounds of sabotage. According to LFL director Eric Paulsen the questioning of a lawyer over his client endangers the independence of the Bar and the fundamental principle of lawyer-client privilege. He refers to Articles 16, 18 and 22 of the United Nations Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
