The present document of Human Rights Watch concerns HRW’s thoughts that Iran’s government should withdraw new regulations that severely limit the independence of the Iranian Bar Association and would give the government control over a lawyer’s right to practice. HRW states that the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers state that lawyers have the right to form “self-governing” professional associations to “protect their professional integrity” which shall be able to “exercise its functions without external interference.”
