The present checklist for effective implementation of Amnesty International indicates both what states parties are required to do under the Rome statute and what Amnesty International recommends that they should do to ensure that the Court is an effective complement to national courts and that their authorities are legally prepared to co-operate fully with the Court. Amnesty states that there are a broad range of international standards governing the treatment of prisoners other than those expressly incorporated in treaties which states should apply. These include the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
