Lawyers for Liberty co-founder Eric Paulsen was arrested over a tweet in which he said the Malaysian Islamic Development Department was promoting extremism in Friday sermons. The International Commission of Jurists said in a statement that it condemned this arrest and investigation under the Sedition Act 1948. This acts restricts the freedom of expression of lawyers and is incompatible with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The application of the Sedition Act is also inconsistent with the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
