The present report concerns a mission of the Special Rapporteur for the independence of judges and lawyers to Kazakhstan. The Special Rapporteur refers to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers with regard tothe pre-trial stage and says that defence counsels must be granted powers to have full access to the evidence and prepare their own case for the trial.
