The present report of Amnesty International to the UN Committee against Torture concerns measures taken by Belarus to implement the provisions of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. Following an overview of the general human rights situation in Belarus, the briefing will focus on those issues relating to the implementation of the Convention against Torture which Amnesty International views with particular concern. Amnesty refers to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers with regard to access to legal representation.
