The present report of Amnesty International examines issues relating to Azerbaijan meeting the international obligations to investigate allegations of ill-treatment and torture, and to bring alleged perpetrators to justice in the course of full and fair proceedings. Amnesty International concludes with recommendations to the Azerbaijani authorities and states that under international standards, such as the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers, everyone in detention or facing a possible criminal charge has the right to the assistance of a lawyer of their own choice to protect their rights and to assist in their defence.
