The present report reflects all urgent appeals and letters of allegations sent by special procedures mandate holders, including the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers  between 1 December 2010 and 31 May 2011 and all replies received between 1 February 2011 and 31 July 2011. The report includes alleged patterns of intimidation and acts of violence against lawyers. The report also includes replies received between 1 February and 31 July 2011, relating to communications sent by special procedures mandate holders before 1 December 2010. Short summaries of allegations communicated to States or other entities are included in the report, as are the communications sent and responses received. Relevant are the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers, specifically related to access to lawyers and legal services.
