The present report reflects findings of the Special Rapporteur global thematic study on international human rights law capacity-building activities for judges, magistrates, prosecutors, public defenders and lawyers. Thematic areas addressed in the report include; international human rights education and the ongoing training of judicial actors, the importance of solid knowledge and understanding of international human rights law and legal education in the appointment, career and promotion of magistrates, judges, prosecutors and public defenders, and the main challenges faced, particularly the lack of adequate resources, and gender sensitivity issues in the training of judges and lawyers. The report concludes with a series of recommendations pertaining to the development and improvement of training activities, as well as their effectiveness. It is noted that capacity-building activities in the sphere of international human rights law are an important instrument to increase understanding and promotion and protection of human rights issues.
