This report of the Judicial System Monitoring Programme (JSMP) concerns the new judicial system in East Timor, which was both compliant with international standards and compatible with the particular circumstances of East Timor. This report aims to evaluate the performance of that new system in the context of the Dili District Court. The JSMP refers to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers with regard to the right to a fair trial.
