The present report of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) concerns the result of a factfinding mission to Mauritania because of the judicial situation of the 21 “Islamists” who had been in provisional detention for several months. . The objective of the mission was to examine the administration of justice, with particular regard to the files of the “Islamists,” and investigate suspicions of torture being used as a tool in the fight against terrorism. The FIDH refers to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers with regard to the right of access to a lawyer.
