The present document of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) concerns a submission of the ICJ to the Human Rights Council on the universal periodic review of Uzbekistan. In this submission, the ICJ points to issues of concern, which it recommends that the Committee highlight in the list of issues on Uzbekistan. The ICJ notes that a new system on the legal profession raises concerns of freedom of association and is contrary to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
