The present document of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) copncerns a legal commentary to the Berlin Declaration. It explains the international law, jurisprudence and expert interpretations that underlie the Berlin Declaration. It explains what the principles mean in practice and what international legal standards apply. The ICJ refers to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers as a valuable source of the rights of lawyers.
