The present document of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) concerns the state of justice in Gibraltar. The ICJ concludes that although individuals enjoy the right to a fair trial before a competent, independent and impartial tribunal established by law, and in accordance with the principle of equality before the law and the presumption of innocence, there is room for improvement in the provision of legal aid and of pro bono work. The ICJ refers several times to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
