The present document of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) concerns the position of jurists and lawyers in the Ivory Coast since the enactment of the new Constitution of 2000. According to the ICJ police frequently restrict the access of lawyers to some prisoners, although the practice is prohibited by law, especially in case of political arrests. This practice constitutes a violation of the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
