The present report of Human Rights Watch concerns police and protestors clashes in Armenia’s capital Yerevan on March 1, 2008, bringing to a head the country’s latest electoral dispute, over the results of a presidential poll in February. HRW recommends the government of Armenia that they should review all legislation related to policing and crowd control and ensure that all laws relating to use of force are in full accordance with the ICCPR, the ECHR and the United Nations Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials. HRW refers to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers as a valuable source on the right to counsel.
