The present document of Human Rights Watch concerns the outcome of reports of several non-governmental organizations on the human rights situation in Georgia. In analyzing the human rights violations described in this report, Human Rights Watch examined not only the international human rights treaties to which Georgia is a party, but also other norms of international law, which are not treaties and therefore not binding, but which do offer authoritative guidance and reflect international consensus as to the manner in which states should comply with their human rights obligations. These include the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
