The present report of Amnesty International elaborates on the need to reform the criminal justice system of Iraq. Amnesty International calls for the urgent establishment of a United Nations (UN) commission of experts to develop proposals for a program that would address comprehensively the issue of justice in Iraq, with the participation of Iraqi civil society. Amnesty refers to several fundamental principles to be implemented in Iraqi law. These principles are derived from international standards, such as the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
