Amnesty International has longstanding and continuing concerns regarding the failure of the authorities in Greece to ensure that the police respect and protect human rights. This report highlights such concerns, as well as those relating to the treatment in custody of both peaceful demonstrators and those uninvolved in demonstrations after 6 December. This report concludes with a set of recommendations to the Greek authorities. Amnesty states that international standards state that every person arrested or detained has the right to assistance of legal counsel, which is enshrined in the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
