The present document of Amnesty International presents to President Medveded of Russa its key concerns relating to human rights in the Russian Federation. Amnesty International believes that President Medvedev should take action on some issues, in accordance with the recommendations below, in order to achieve lasting, substantive improvements in terms of legislative, policy and administrative change. Amnesty urges the President to ensure that respect and protection of the right of human rights defenders and lawyers to conduct their work without hindrance, intimidation or harassment are guaranteed, in line with Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
