This submission consists of an analysis of legal framework of Jordan with respect to its international obligations pursuant to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (UNCAT) and other fundamental legal guarantees of importance for upholding the prohibition of torture.

Reference to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers in this submission has been made with regard to the right to Legal Council. In accordance with the Basic Principles, all persons arrested and detained should be informed of their right to be assisted by a lawyer of their choice or a State-appointed lawyer able to provide effective legal assistance.
