The present report of Amnesty International reflects on the situation in Israel and other occupied territories. Amnesty recommends that all those in a position of authority must recognize that the right to life, physical and mental integrity, freedom from arbitrary detention, freedom of movement, freedom of expression and freedom from fear and want are the inalienable rights of both Israelis and Palestinians. Israeli law, which applies in East Jerusalem, offers greater protection to the detainee than the military orders which govern the Occupied Territories. The legislation breached international law standards, such as the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers, on the right to access to a lawyer.
