This article pays attention to the Civil Gideon Rights, which is an emerging international human rights that is receiving increasing recognition on the international stage. The status of the Civil Gideon right as a general principle of law in the international community is among others supported by reference to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers, and therefore the Basic Principles are among the documents that are discussed.
