The present report of Amnesty International elaborates on the situation of justice in East Timor. Amnesty calls upon an international support to increase justice in East Timor. One essential component of this support should be a long-term UN human rights field presence to assist the future East Timor government in the task of developing an institutional and legal framework to protect and promote human rights. Amnesty International recommends the implementation of a Code of Ethics for lawyers which is consistent with the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
