The present report summarizes key human rights challenges for Burundi, reiterating many of the concerns and recommendations expressed in previous Amnesty International reports in relation to the killings of unarmed civilians, torture, “disappearances”, arbitrary arrests, unfair trials, the death penalty and the rights of the displaced and refugees. According to Amnesty International the Burundi Government should implement the full range of other human rights standards including the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
