The present report contains concluding observations of the Human Rights Committee on the situation of Belarus. The Committee stresses that the independence of the judiciary and the legal profession is essential for a sound administration of justice and for the maintenance of democracy and the rule of law and refers on that issue to the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
