The UN Commission on Human Rights expresses its appreciation to the Special Rapporteur Mr. L. M. Singhvi, for his study on the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, jurors and assessors and the independence of lawyers (E/CN.4/Sub.2/1985/18 and Add.1-6) and for his draft declaration (E/CN.4/Sub.2/1988/20/Add.1 and Add.1/Corr.1). The Commisson requests the Secretary-General to transmit to the Committee on Crime Prevention and Control, and to the Eighth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders in 1990, the study and the draft declaration, and urges the Committee and the Congress to take them into account in completing work on the draft basic principles on the role of lawyers.
