This Monday, legal professionals and academics from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond gathered to watch our documentary GuardingGaia during the 6th LAWASIA Human Rights Conference in Bangkok (11-12 May), entitled “Human Rights under Threat – Meeting the Challenges from Repression, Climate Change, Artificial Intelligence, and the Decline of the Rule of Law”.
Produced as part of our Environmental Lawyers Campaign, together with Human Rights in the Picture, the film highlights the crucial work and growing risks, faced by lawyers worldwide who defend communities affected by environmental harm.
We are especially honoured that Thai human rights and environmental lawyer Sor Rattanamanee Polkla, one of four lawyers featured in the documentary, joined the Q&A following the screening. As founder and Executive Coordinator of the Community Resource Centre Foundation (CRC), Sor has long supported communities affected by environmental harm in Thailand and has herself faced reprisals because of her work.
Her story is a powerful reminder that protecting lawyers is essential to advancing a sustainable and just future for all.
