About Lawyers for Lawyers

Lawyers for Lawyers is committed to protecting and supporting lawyers who are threatened, hindered, or prosecuted because of their work. We help ensure that lawyers can perform their essential role as defenders of the rule of law freely and independently. Lawyers for Lawyers consists of a strong board, a small office team, and a broad network of lawyers and law firms (in the Netherlands) who support colleagues worldwide.

What will you do?

We are looking for a motivated intern to support our work this summer. As an intern, you will be involved in a wide range of activities, including:

  • Conducting legal and factual research on the situation of lawyers in various countries.
  • Drafting and contributing to articles, website updates, reports, and advocacy documents (including UN-related and other regional mechanism submissions).
  • Assisting with the preparation and coordination of projects and events, including
international training activities, which may involve logistical support (e.g. liaising with participants, coordinating travel and accomodation, and supporting administrative processes).
  • Supporting organisational tasks, such as preparing meetings, assisting with project planning, and coordinating communication with partners.
  • Helping with external communication, including drafting short updates, assisting with social media preparation, and supporting the dissemination of Lawyers for Lawyers’ output.
  • Engaging with lawyers visiting the Netherlands and helping connect them with our network when relevant.

This internship is hands-on and varied: you will have the opportunity to gain insight into both the legal and organisational aspects of an international NGO.

What do we ask of you?

  • Affinity with the mission and work of Lawyers for Lawyers.
  • Eagerness to learn, strong motivation, and the ability to work independently.
  • Good analytical and organizational skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Strong English writing skills.
  • Knowledge of additional languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic) is welcome but not required.

What do we offer?

  • The chance to contribute to meaningful international human rights work with tangible impact.
  • Insight into how a professional NGO operates, including advocacy strategies, project work, and communication.
  • The opportunity to interact with lawyers, law firms, and international partners.
  • Hands-on experience combining legaladvocacyand organisational work.
  • Independence and responsibility in your tasks.
  • A supportive, informal, and enthusiastic team environment.
  • Close supervision and active coaching throughout the internship.
  • An internship remuneration of EUR 500 per month (based on a 40-hour week; pro rata for 32 hours).
