According to reports, on 22 February 2015, Karim Hamdy was arrested during a raid on his home by armed security forces. After various incidents of torture, he was sent to the prosecutor’s office for further questioning. However, he never arrived there. His lawyers discovered he had died. Examination of his body at the morgue showed several signs of torture. The Law Society of Upper Canada urges the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt to comply with Articles 6, 7, and 10 (i) of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Article 16 and 23 of the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
