Khalil Ma’touq is a longtime and prominent human rights lawyer in Syria. He left home on 2 October 2012 but never arrived at his office. It is believed that he was arrested as a direct result of his human rights work and his whereabouts are still unknown. The Law Society of Upper Canada urges Syria to comply with the Articles 16 and 23 of the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
