The Law Society of Upper Canada is deeply concerned about the ongoing harassment of lawyer Narges Mohammadi in Iran. She is a prominent human rights lawyer and activist, as well as Spokesperson and Vice-President of the Defenders of Human Rights Centre in Iran. She was sentenced to six years in prison for propaganda against the Islamic Republic, assembly and collusion against national security and membership in an illegal group. Later she was released an continued her work for the defense of human rights in Iran. However, the harassment by Iranian authorities did not stop. This contravenes Principles 16 and 23 of the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
