Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB), the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD), and the Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) strongly condemn the sentencing of Sheikh Ali Salman to four years in prison on politically-motivated charges. Sheikh Ali Salman is the leader of the largest opposition party in Bahrain. His trial was unfair and his conviction means a step back for the democratic reform in Bahrain. His conviction is in contravention of several rights of the UDHR and the ICCPR, as well as principle 21 of the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
