Seven human rights NGOs have sent an open letter to Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General, calling on him to ensure that a recent case of intimidation, pressure and obstruction of the work of a lawyer in the city of Kostany is promptly, impartially, and thoroughly investigated and those responsible held accountable. The letter, which has been signed by Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law, the International Partnership for Human Rights, the International Commission of Jurists, Nota Bene, the Turkmen Initiative for Human Rights, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights and the Norwegian Helsinki Committee refers to principles 16 and 22 of the UN’s Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers.
